What’s Your Story Going to Be?

January 11, 2018 | By

Ever sit back and really feel into what you are focusing on?  Just taking a bit of time to sense what it is you are building, seeking or aligning to?

Most of us have, but on any given day, we only have so much awareness of our choices no matter how much we have done or how advanced we are.  This is, of course, why focusing on conscious awareness and being centered is so important as it can enhance our ability to make conscious choices.

And, if we only have so much time in a day where we are really aware of what we are doing…what we choose to do with that time, becomes quite important.  But, if you boil it down, there are really only two stories that we can follow on any decision, moment or situation.

These two stories have and always will be there.  They have been in our lives to some degree or another throughout our lives and based on our experiences, one or the other has been in the forefront.

The story of our mind and emotions (the ego-based world) has been there since very early on as well as fed by our karmic propensities, or what we came here to experience and/or resolve.  It has helped us to develop coping methods for this world that are geared towards dodging, numbing, hiding and even stimulating to separate us from pain and trauma.

We needed the ego and it came with the ‘human package’ as without it we would not have been able to work face various things or to allow our karmic debt/programming to come up.

However, the other story has always been there as well, and also comes with the ‘human package,’ which is that of the heart, of the Divine within.

Now, this story, for most, is difficult to sense and even more challenging to understand as it requires the opposite….to be open, to face things and to embrace all that life offers as in this story there is no end to our energy as it is a part of a greater whole.

The ego’s story is concerned about keeping itself in the center as it feels that fear, that trauma, and even death is an affront to its life and its perceived position of power.  Interestingly, the ego is also attached to the heart’s story as the ego was developed out of a necessity to protect that genuineness and innocence of our hearts.

The issue for most is that they stopped seeing the ego and the mind as just the defense that was formed when we were too young and we perceive it as us.  They began to see it as the only aspect of themselves even though there were grumblings from within that demonstrated that there was still that other story…the one hidden still there.

The heart-based story is truer in nature and self-propelling as it does not require constant feeding of energy, unlike the ego that needs that constant push to keep running.  The heart path, for lack of a better analogy, resides underneath the ego, the pain, the trauma, our shadow and karmic patterns/debt in the heart.  The connection to truth and lovingness.

Each of these stories has a history that is individual to each of us, and we have the choice in those awakened moments of each day to build either story…or to slowly replace one with the other.

The ego’s story keeps us on the defense, hiding, dodging, denying and in pain.  It is focused on resisting anything that does not fit in its parameters and fighting to keep us in judgment and skewed perception.  It keeps us spinning in various patterns, loops, and programs that are desperately trying to keep us ‘safe’ when there is no real threat other than the perceived death of this story.

The heart’s story keeps us more and more on the path to truth, happiness, and fulfillment. By aligning to it, we can feel and sense to a greater degree what it is we truly are here for and how to go about fulfilling this.

One of these stories keeps repeating and never really goes anywhere but in a circle that usually begins to collapse upon itself once our consciousness begins to shift towards courage and neutrality.   The other leads to an ever-changing life of joy and learning to surrender and let go of resistance to truly be able to discern what is best for us.

The choice of which story you feed is up to you.  Either one can be stifled or chosen.

The work of the spiritual path is to embrace both at first and slowly let go of the ego’s version.  Which, does not ‘kill’ the ego, but more so just limits its expression and the attachment to it.  This is not an easy journey at first, but if you can keep choosing that pathway within, you will not only begin to see that the only real threat is within you (the ego itself).   And, you will also see the tremendous change that arises as you allow your heart to fill up your life.

All that you need to do is find ways to turn within and listen, to allow, to accept and release via the heart.  Over time, you will develop enough spiritual tools and tricks to allow you to face any and all that the ego throws your way and keep changing or creating the story that you would like.
